Fijians welcomed some financial relief on 1 June 2025 as the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) announced a decrease in fuel and LPG prices, following changes in global prices and freight costs. The adjustment, which was based on the latest fuel import and exchange rate data, provides much-needed support to households and businesses grappling with rising living costs.

The price of motor spirit dropped by 10 cents, bringing it to $2.58 per litre, while diesel decreased by 8 cents to $2.35 per litre. Kerosene, widely used in rural and maritime communities, saw a drop of 6 cents, landing at $1.92 per litre. Similarly, LPG prices were revised downwards, with a 12kg cylinder now costing $40.38—a decrease of 46 cents.

FCCC Chief Executive Joel Abraham said the price adjustments were part of the commission’s ongoing review process, which ensures that prices are fair and reflective of international trends. “These changes are a result of movements in world market prices for petroleum and LPG, as well as updated freight charges and exchange rates. We remain committed to price transparency and ensuring that consumers benefit from favourable trends,” he said.

The news was met with optimism from transport operators, retailers, and consumers. Many transport companies noted that even a marginal drop in diesel prices makes a difference for logistics and public transport services.

However, Abraham cautioned that prices remain volatile due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, fluctuations in supply chains, and exchange rate dynamics. He urged consumers to remain energy-conscious and consider fuel-saving practices where possible.

The FCCC continues to work with fuel importers and distributors to ensure accurate data reporting and to prevent price manipulation. Abraham also encouraged consumers to report any discrepancies or unethical practices to the commission’s hotline.

As the cost of living continues to be a pressing issue, the June fuel price drop offers a timely boost to household budgets, particularly in rural areas where transport costs remain high.
