Shane Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Westpac Fiji, recently celebrated a remarkable milestone—40 years of dedicated service with the nation’s oldest bank. Joining Westpac’s Suva branch as an 18-year-old, Smith has devoted his entire career to enhancing customer experiences and contributing to the Fijian economy.

Reflecting on his journey, Smith expressed pride in witnessing the transformative changes Westpac has implemented over the years, benefiting not only customers but also the broader community. He highlighted initiatives such as the staff volunteer program, free financial literacy programs, and the Westpac Women and Girls Education Grant, which has been running for over 13 years.

In 2022, Smith made history by becoming Westpac Fiji’s first local Chief Executive Officer in over a century. His appointment marked a significant milestone, reflecting the bank’s confidence in local leadership to drive its strategic vision.

Under Smith’s leadership, Westpac Fiji has reaffirmed its commitment to the Pacific region. The bank announced plans to remain in Fiji and Papua New Guinea, signaling confidence in the Fijian economy and its robust financial markets. Smith indicated that this foundation paves the way for a bright future, with more investments earmarked for 2025.

Shane has been a long time friend and supporter of the Fiji-Australia and the Australia-Fiji Business Councils.

During a recent celebration with colleagues and staff, Smith took the opportunity to thank his team for their unwavering support throughout his career. This gathering not only honoured his personal achievement but also underscored the collaborative spirit that has been instrumental in Westpac’s success.

Smith’s four-decade tenure and his journey at Westpac Fiji from a young recruit to the helm of the organisation serves as an inspiration, highlighting the impact of commitment and community-focused initiatives in fostering economic growth and development.
