Fiji Airways has strengthened its presence in Australia with the launch of direct flights between Nadi and the Gold Coast, a move expected to boost tourism, business travel and economic links between Fiji and South-East Queensland.

The airline announced commencement of services from 11 June, operating three flights a week between Nadi International Airport and Gold Coast Airport. The new route adds approximately 53,000 seats a year and makes the Gold Coast Fiji Airways’ seventh Australian destination, joining Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Cairns.

The launch marks a significant expansion of Fiji Airways’ Australian network at a time when demand for travel between the two countries continues to grow. Australia remains Fiji’s largest tourism market, accounting for the biggest share of visitor arrivals and visitor spending.

In the lead-up to the route launch, Fiji Airways undertook an extensive marketing campaign in Queensland, including a new three-year partnership with the Gold Coast SUNS AFL club. The agreement is designed to raise awareness of Fiji as a holiday destination while promoting the new air service to travellers across South-East Queensland.

The Gold Coast route is expected to provide benefits beyond tourism. Industry observers say it will strengthen business connectivity between Fiji and one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions, while creating new opportunities for trade, investment and professional services.

Gold Coast Airport has also highlighted the strategic importance of the service for international travellers. Through Fiji Airways’ Nadi hub, passengers from the Gold Coast will gain improved access to destinations across the Pacific and North America. Likewise, the route provides North American visitors with a new gateway to the Gold Coast via Fiji, helping diversify visitor flows into Queensland.

The service is expected to support Fiji’s tourism sector, which continues to enjoy strong demand from Australian travellers seeking short-haul holiday destinations. Resorts, tour operators, transport providers and hospitality businesses in Fiji are likely to benefit from the additional visitor capacity.

For Fiji Airways, the expansion reinforces its role as a key connector between Australia, the Pacific and North America. The airline has increasingly positioned Nadi as a regional aviation hub, linking major Australian cities with destinations throughout the Pacific while providing onward connections to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and Dallas.

The addition of the Gold Coast service reflects growing confidence in the Australia-Fiji travel market and further strengthens one of the Pacific region’s most important tourism and business corridors.
