The Fiji-Papua New Guinea (PNG) Business Mission 2025 recently convened in Port Moresby, marking a significant step toward enhancing economic collaboration between the two Pacific nations. Led by Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, the mission comprised government officials and private sector leaders. The primary objective was to explore and strengthen bilateral trade and investment opportunities, fostering mutual economic growth.

With a population of approximately 12.5 million, PNG presents substantial untapped opportunities for investors. Several Fijian companies, have successfully established operations in PNG, demonstrating the viability of such ventures.

The mission was facilitated by Investment Fiji and the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, in partnership with the Investment Promotion Agency PNG and the Fiji High Commission in PNG. Support was also provided by Vodafone PNG and BSP Financial Group Limited. The delegation’s activities included a Business Forum at APEC Haus, where discussions centred on fostering partnerships and exploring investment opportunities. Keynote speakers underscored the importance of adaptability, impactful entrepreneurship, and continuous learning in achieving business success.

Site visits to entities such as CPL Warehouse and CPL Supermarket offered delegates firsthand insights into operational logistics, supply chain management, and the role of local produce in community-based business models. These visits reinforced the potential for agricultural empowerment to drive economic development and highlighted the importance of transforming vacant land into productive agricultural assets to support national food security and rural livelihoods.
