Australia Fiji Business Council member The Calmer Co. is expanding its presence in Australia’s mainstream retail market, with Coles placing an initial order for Fiji Kava® FZZR™, the first flavoured kava product to be ranged in Australian supermarkets.
The new Piña Colada-flavoured 10-pack will begin rolling out to 583 Coles stores nationally from the week commencing 12 October, representing around 66 per cent of the supermarket group’s network.
FZZR™ uses a standardised kava water extract in an effervescent format that can be dissolved in water, taken directly or chewed. The product is listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods as a complementary medicine and is regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
The launch builds on strong growth for the company’s existing Fiji Kava range in Australia. Fiji Kava’s 150g product is now stocked in 837 Coles stores, while the 50g product is available in 788 Coles stores. The 50g product is also ranged in 1,006 Woolworths stores, covering about 90 per cent of the Woolworths network.
Sales momentum has continued to strengthen. In the September quarter, sales of the existing Fiji Kava range increased 33 per cent at Woolworths and 27 per cent at Coles compared with the June quarter. Woolworths sales have risen in every quarter since national ranging began in June 2025, while September 2026 was the brand’s strongest month at the retailer since launch. Coles scan data also places Fiji Kava at number one nationally in its Stress category by value sales.
The expansion is significant for Fiji as well as Australia. The Calmer Co. operates a vertically integrated farm-to-shelf supply chain, working directly with Fijian growers and processing kava in Fiji. Its Fiji Kava business has an established 111-acre nucleus farm at Levuka and says its supply chain is designed around traceability, consistent Noble Kava varieties and local processing.
The company says Australian retail has become its largest sales channel, contributing 45 per cent of group revenue in the June 2026 quarter, while Australian retail revenue rose 30 per cent in FY26.
The Coles launch marks another step in the movement of kava from a traditional Pacific product into mainstream Australian wellness retail, while creating growing commercial opportunities for Fiji’s kava farmers, processors and exporters.
